Fernando Alonso expects to race back to the top, the flying spaniard is anticipating his rival team-mate to cave under the enormous pressure of leading the prestigious Formula 1 championship. The two time reigning champion was let down by a gear box failure in the last session of saturdays qualifying which left him in tenth position, his lowest start of the season.
This allowed the young gun Felipe Massa to take pole positions and his ferrari team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen, not far behind in third. The young british sensation Lewis Hamilton took another front row start in second place. The two ferraris had a brilliant chance to close the constructors championship gap from the McLaren's.
On sunday Felipe Massa closed the gap in the drivers championship by winning the Magny Course grand prix while Lewis Hamilton picked up another scorching podium finish in third position. While McLaren were left reeling by Fernando Alonso's seventh place finish. The gap between Hamilton and Alonso increased to fourteen points to the despair of Fernando's family and friends.
Fernando Alonso was quoted saying "I am convinced that sooner or later the 14-point difference will disappear and to be able to reduce that deficit in his home would be very good for me, it would give me a moral boost." In my opinion this is a bit harsh as at the end of the day they are both part of the same team so why try to jeopardize their friendship. Many people say Alonso was in his right to express this as Formula 1 is a competition and many people feel we should keep it like that.
