Pledge for the young homeless
Ruth Kelly, communities secretary, has pledged to end the use of bed and breakfast accomodation for homeless 16 and 17 year-olds.
Plans have been made by the Government, to allocate £164 million to provide support and emotional support to young, homeless teens. It was also announced that Ruth Kelly would establish supported lodging schemes such as meditation and training. Although the number of teenagers sleeping rough have fallen by 73% since 1998, there are still many issues that need to be addressed. There are still 94,000 families of which are living in a temporary accomodation. 
Ms Kelly has said: "We cannot slow down, and we're not going to." Along with other matters, she also admitts that more social housing is needed and she has stressed this to the Government. In 2007-08 they plan and hope to build 75,000 homes.
In response to the following issues, Adam Sampson, Chief Executive of charity shelter, announced that he wanted to welcome bed and breakfast for the homeless youngsters and plans to offer supported lodgings.
