Yesterday 11,000 pupils in over 150 schools sat an impossible GCSE exam after a major error by the AQA exam board administrators.
The humanities exam should have come with a booklet and question paper, but the booklet was not delivered. Every pupil taking this exam was affected as a blunder by the examination board wrecked their careful preparation for their GCSEs.
The booklet contained many important sources including photographs and written extracts. The pupils were then questioned on these, even though they were without the booklet.
A spokeswoman for the AQA said, "An error on our part means that fresh copies of that pre-released information have not been sent out as they were meant to have been. We understand that the situation will be unsettling for pupils taking the exam but mistakes like this are not common. Examiners will take into account the situation when the grades are awarded."
She also mentioned that pupils should move on and concentrate on revising for other exams coming up.
