Chaos caused by rampaging highland bull
A Horned bull caused chaos among locals and police patrol on a main road in Wiltshire.
Yesterday night, at 10.55pm, a rampaging Highland bull was spotted on the A350 near Steeple Ashton in Wiltshire. The escaped woolly beast was ambling along in the middle of the road, causing vehicles to swerve, untill police arrived and tried to take control.
When police arrived, the horned bull became restless and charged one of the police patrol vehicles. The officers inside suffered no injury, but the car was not so lucky, coming away with a dented bonnet and a missing grille. The bull also struck the windscreen, but it remained intact. "Our officers were shaken but unharmed inside the vehicle and able to drive away.", a police spokesperson said.
It took about 2 hours to coax the animal into a nearby field, at midnight, and the owner of the bull was contacted. The owner, a local farmer, confirmed that in fact, it was not a bull, but a cow. A police spokesman stated: "When it's dark and there's a hairy creature snorting and pawing the ground in front of you, you don't stop to check."
Female Highland cows weigh up to a tonn and males can weigh even more, but this female was returned to her home safely and successfully.
