AQA makes major booklet error but tells GCSEs to continue
The AQA exam board makes major error by forgetting to send the booklets that the pupils were questioned on to the schools taking the GCSE
On the 22nd May, 11000 teenagers took a humanities GCSE without the source booklet. The exam board failed to send the vital booklets to go with the papers. The papers questioned the pupils on a series of sources, such as cartoons, written articles and photographs. The board told the schools to take the exam anyway. Over 150 schools and colleges in England took the exam but not one of these were given the booklet.
The administrators admitted this mistake which caused this GCSE to be "impossible". Some of the 150 schools were taking their first exam of the season and students are said to be extremely distressed.
From 3 months ago, students have had a copy of the booklet but were not allowed to take annotated copies into their GCSE exam. However, at least one school photocopied copies of the source booklet and handed them out for the exam.
Sarah Tether, an education secretary for the Liberal Democrats says "What happened today is disgraceful, exam boards simply need to get their act together. After a spate of exam  debacles over the past few years let's hope this is not a shadow of things to come this summer."
