Foster carers salary increase
Is it right for children in care to be given extra money for educational support?
Children in care are to be given money for their education by the government, and social workers will get an extra £500 a year to help support the children in care.
However, they may not benefit from this as 60,000 children in care have been failed by this system. Three quarters have no education, and it is only 1 in 100 that go to University, although those who do will receive a £2,000 bursary to get them started.
The Government have researched into the way this system works, and have found that 1/4 of the looked-after girls have been pregnant by the time they're 16 and a further half are single mothers within 2 years of leaving the care system. Half of all prisoners under the age of 25 have also been in care which may be why the behaviour within the prison is often terrible.
Although there is a large amount of people who do not benefit from this system, it doesn't mean that there is no chance for anyone else.
