Foster parents cash incentive
An increase in foster parents salary by government to help improve child welfare for 2007.
The department of social services has decided on an increase of salary to improve the lives and chances of children in foster care. This proposal has been expected to go ahead toward the end of 2006-2007. The new funds will go towards 350 new child welfare workers, helping to restore the board rate of foster care and setting up emergency shelters and group homes. Other areas to be focused on will be projected adoptions, therefore giving more stability for parents considering fostering.
By improving salary, there will also be a significant improvement in foster care work which is thought to be lead to less turnover, more stability and high morale among workers as there will be more supervisory career positions. The change has been made due to the buget being cut in earlier years and foster care workers had less support, hopefully the new funds will be a significant benefit toward fostered children's future as the money will go towards university education giving them a promising start to life.
