A portrait of one of Picasso's mistresses, holding rare value, has become the second most expensive artwork to be sold at auction in the world.
Picasso's rare Dora Maar With Cat, has been bought for £52 million - topping to be the second most expensive piece of artwork to be sold under auction, in the world. The 1941 portrait - auctioned at Sotheby's in New York - planned to sell for only £21.75 million.

David Norman, of Sotherby's claimed "We thought it was worth more, and we were right."

The portrait was bought by a man in his mid-40's, who alledgedly sounded to have a Russian accent and hold the air of a first-time auctioneer. Along with the Picasso, he also
bought a Monet for £2.7million.

The most expensive artwork ever sold at auction is so far Picasso's Boy With A Pipe - selling at the price of £56.5 million, two years ago.
