World's furthest toddle angers activists!
Asian Human activists angered by a year old running in marathon.
The Asian Centre For Human Rights (ACHR) is protesting against the actions made by sports coaches who organised 4 year old, Budhia Singh, to run a 70km marathon in order to acheive place in India's book of records, of which 65km was completed.
Budia Singh grew up in the slum areas of Orissa, and chose to take part in the the Puri-Bhubaneswar marathon in order to get his name into the Limca book of records (the mosrecognised book in India). The boy ran 65km before collapsing from severe exhaustion after running 7 hours in the ferocious heat. He is currently in hospital recovering with an expert team of private doctors at his side.
The human rights group are lobbying The National Human Rights Comission (NHRC) to argue register an FIR under section 336 of the IPC against many of the people involved, including Orissa's sport's minister Debashis Nayak and the MP Archana Nayak, and the boy's coach Bianchi Das.
"If an act is done so rashly or negligently as to endangerhuman life or the personal safety of the others as defined under 336 of the Indian Penal Code," Suhas Chakma (director of the ACHR) stated in an interview. He also added "what if the kid had died during the gruelling run? Who would have been responsible?" The centre are urging the NHRC to allow the boy a proper medical check up to ensure no long term damage to his health has been done, after they had washed their hands of the child.
Singh woke up at 3:15am, ran diligently until he collapsed, and was forbidden to rest. The champion had an oil massage, ate chhatu and took a 30 minute nap. Then he was hurried into television studios and had little time to sleep until after 10pm.
He has been entered into the Licma world records.
