A gun man has been arrested after hijacking a West Boeing737 which was flying from the Sudan capital with 103 passengers on board to El Fasher in the Darfur region. The plane was diverted to Chad however, the original destination for the gunman was Europe. The hijacker was armed with a machine gun, and a Chadian goverment minister said "He was seeking asylum in the UK". Both countries have had poor diplomatic relations and accused each other of backing rival Rebel groups. He was arrested by the Chadian security forces after they negotiated the passengers release. Officials are baffled as to how the hijacker managed to smuggle a machine gun onto the aircraft at Khartoum and no explanation has been given as yet. The hijacker, Mahamat Abdelatif Mahamat 24, who had several weapons said he was trying to escape " Degarding and humiliating treatment". He also admitted that he wasn't a terrorist or a rebel.
