The Beautiful Game, or is it?
For the past few months the theme of poaching and bung culture has become ever so popular. From the unexplainable transfer of John Obi Mikel from lyn to the recent Panoroma programme on bung culture.
The game idolised by millions, the game played by millions and the game watched by millions has entered a major row because of the rise of corruption which is poisoning the game. Heading this row is Gordon Taylor, the cheif executive of the proffesional Footballers' Asscoiation (PFA) who has called on a clapdown of agents "hawking" young players around different clubs.
In addition Gordon Taylor feels the BBC television Probe (Panorama-Bung Culture) into corruption among top clubs can be positve. Futhermore Gordon is adamant tha only players should pay agents which would reduce the amount of Bungs offered. Another man who agrees with Gordon on these issues is Luton manager Mike Newell who publicly unveiled an agent who he claimed had attempted to bribe him.
Many people echo these views incuding C Kingston-Trotman, " I feel that this is vey important as agents are trusted to help young players but are only in it for the money". On the other hand other clubs are said to be outraged with these comments including Bolton manager Sam Allaydyce who has labelled the programme a 'lie'. Fellow top club manager of Portsmouth Harry Redknapp has said, "I didn't see any wrong soingdoing from these clubs".
But the main question on everyone's mind is why did this happen? Quite simply, the football industry has become a massive one and also one with mass amonts of money involved so its also a certainty you will get a minority of people trying to take avantage.
