Don't rain on our Festival!
The Biggest Music Festival ever is going to be the safest, as Glastonbury cranks up security for this year's event.
177,500 people have desecended on Glastonbury, Somerset, this year for the biggest Music Festival in History. Tickets are selling this year for £170 and were sold out in a record breaking 90 minutes. The selection of successful bands playing this year contributed to this price. On the Main "Pyramid" stage there will be a diverse range of bands, from rising stars such as The Artic Monkeys, The Fratellis and The Killers, to classic legends The Who.
Glastonbury is currently in is 27th year, and security has been beefed up for this milestone year. Police have rigged up CCTV cameras around the site, hoping to catch out would-be criminals. However the authorities cannot arrest the weather, which is the most likely culprit to disrupt the show. Forecasters have predicted heavy thunderstorms. Let's just hope festival-goers haven't forgotten their wellies, as they are likely to be caught up in the mudbath. Despite this, Micheal Eavis, organiser of the festival, was sure that the farm site in which Glastonbury is held will avoid the worst of the weather: "It's not even raining-there was some drizzle for an hour and a half", showing that he is adamant that the show will continue uninterrupted.
Aside from the musical talent performing at the festival, many interesting activities will be taking place, such as political discussions, poetry, Lost Vagueness, and a groundbreaking "silent rave".
More than 24,000 fans gathered at the Stone Circle for an all-night party on Thursday to celebrate the summer solstice, greeting the epic site of the rising sun with an almighty cheer. Let's hope their prayers are answered and the sun will keep shining on this magnificent event.
