60-year-old mother of three gives birth to twins despite IVF ethics and the worries of her children
On Tuesday 22nd May Frieda Birnbaum gave birth to twins by Caesarean Section.
Despite IVF treatment being seen as an alternative for parents who struggle to have children, Birnbaum, a pyschologist and already a mother of three with children ages 33, 29 and 6, had to travel to South Africa for the In-Vitro Fertilization because America would not have her.
The twins were born in Hackensack University medical centre. It was her husbands idea for her to become pregnant again, so her six-year-old son could have younger siblings, rather than to follow in the steps of celebrities such as Angelina Jolie who have recently adopted. She decided to use this as an oppotunity to show that older women can have children.
Daughter, 29, has said that she worries about how her mother will care for the teenage twins when she is in her 70's.
Some people may be against IVF in such a circumstance but Mrs Birnbaum says her twins are a gift.
It just so happens that on the same day, it was the 1st birthday of twins, born to a 59-year-old.
