Iran insists its nuclear program is only for developing energy and that giving it up would cripple Tehran's goal of becomming a world power. Also Iran contended the penalties are illegal because it has rights to generate power under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. During a Whitehouse news conference, Bush said "Iran's defiance means its time to go further, the world spoken and said 'you know, no nuclear weapons program', and yet they've constantly ignored the demands. "my views are we need to dtrenghten the sanctions". The President also said he planned to urge chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin than "an Iran with nuclear weapon would be incredibly destabiizing for the world." however Iran on the other hand responded by giving the UN Nuclear watchdog agency less access to its nuclear facilities
