FIFA Get Tough On Racism
FIFA have warned they will suspend national associations who fail to impose tough new rules on racism.
FIFA have warned that they will suspend national associations who fail to impose tough new rules on racism. A launch of an anti racism drive in Berlin took place, where FIFA president Sepp Blatter concluded regulations were obligatory. This included docking points from clubs and countries whose fans are guilty of racism offences.
Blatter said "The first responsibilities lie with the national association and if they are not doing what is expected of them then FIFA's executive committee must intervene." He also added "This is a fight against a devil which still exists unfortunately in our sport."
The new rules ratified by FIFA's congress in Munich will be bought in after the World Cup.
US midfielder DaMarcus Beasley has heard the ugly words and vicious taunts screamed by fans in Netherlands simply because he is black.
Cameroon's briliant Samuel Eto'o was so sickened by insults hurled his way, that he threatened to walk off the field.
At present a "football against racism" logo, covers each field's centre circle until just before kickoff. This is further strengthened by a declaration against racism, which is read before each quarter final game.
