Africa's Largest Drug Seizure
$88m worth of cocaine seized from Kenyan drug baron

Authorities in the capital seized 1.1 metric tonnes of cocaine from one of Kenya's most notorious drug traffickers this February, and his eighteen month trial finished today. Five other defendents were acquitted this week, but David Mugo Kiragu was sentenced to thirty years in a Nairobian jail.
The chief magistrate Aggrey Muchelule added,'This country is now described as a major centre for drug trafficking and this has created a bad image and name for residents'.
More than 950 sachets of cocaine were burnt in front of diplomats, journalists and the suspects arrested for trafficking, to qualm accusations of it being sold.
Other discrepancies in the trial were brought up, regarding allegations of crooked officials and tampered evidence.Kenya's drug problems are rife and particularly apparent at its busiest seaport, Mombasa. One local drug addict states, 'They go to Karachi,Pakistan. Then they take it from Kenya to other countries.'
The brother of the convicted,George Kiragu, is still serving time at a Netherland jail and is presumed to be the main suspect in the case.
