Tons of time in Jail.
Man is given 30 years for trafficking 1.1 tonnes of Cocaine.
A man in Kenya has been found guilty of drug trafficking and has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. David Mugo Kirangu was found guilty of being involved with the dirty dealings while five others, including two Europeans, were aqquited. Kirangu's brother is currently the prime suspect in the case.
The case was made surprisingly controversial when it was plagued with corruption, especially in the tampering of evidence.
In 2004, 950 sachets of this Cocaine stash were burnt in the presence of journalists, judges, diplomats and suspects to prove that the Cocaine was not sold (leading to further judicial intervention.)
The full amount of Cocaine which was stored and transited in this incident was worth approximately $88 million dollars.
There is a growing sense of fear and disgust in Kenya, as the Chief Magistrate himself explained how the contry was "becoming a major centre for drug trafficking", which shall inevitably lead to a bad image for Kenya.
The poverty of the country, the corruption of the government and the geography of the country seem to make Kenya the perfect place for drug trafficking.
