Another blow for struggling Indonesia
Plane crash kills 23.
Plane crash kills 23. A plane, full of Indonesian people and some bags, has crashed into a rice field yesterday. The Boeing 737-400 - run by national airline Garuda - caught on fire as it came in too fast at to Java's Yogyakarta airport. One hundred and forty people were on the plane, though currently 23 people are missing, presumed dead, including 5 Australians. The plane veered off the run way as it tried to escape it's flame filled destiny as the pilots tried to avoid the inevitable crash-and-burn of a plane on fire.
The plane managed to touch down and most of the crew and passengers clamber out before the plane burst into flames. 23 people were trapped in the burning inferno, unable to be rescued by Indonesia's under funded emergency service.
This horrific accident is the second in string of blows for Indonesia after the dreadful earthquake earlier this week.
