Chelsea help ruin Arsenals season, again
3 out of 4 for English teams
Arsenal, despite being unbeaten in the premership in 2007 have crashed out of three cups in 11 days ending their dreams of silverware for yet another season. These are depressing times for Arsene Wenger's men as they are also well off Manchester United in the premiership race.
Arsene Wenger would have had high hopes for his Arsenal team in the champions league this season after finishing 2nd last year. They will be bitterly dissapointed to have been knocked out by a weaker PSV team despite getting a 1-1 draw at Highbury. Going out 2-1 on aggregate. Over the two legs Arsenal were much the better team doing all the attacking, PSV came to Highbury with a game plan. Throughout the whole ninety minutes PSV soaked up all of the Arsenal pressure and hoped to sneak a goal at the other end. In the 83rd minute on loan Chelsea defender Alex leaped high above any Arsenal player to cancel out his own goal in the first half. If anyone from PSV desrved to score it was Alex as he was far and away their best player. This left Arsenal needing two goals to go through which in the end was just to much.
Despite this Arsenal shouldn't be to dispondent as the future is looking bright as the young players that took them so far in the carling cup this season will be another year older and another year wiser and most should be looking to claim a regular place in the arsenal first team. For now they will now have to go back to concentrating on the premiership and try to hang on to that coverted fourth champions league spot with Bolton breathing down their neck.
