Last night, Arsenal suffered a humiliating champions league exit at the hands of PSV Eindhoven. The gunners drew the second leg at the Emirates stadium 1-1 to go out on aggregate 1-2 to the Dutch Champions. After a goalless first half, the gunners took the lead in the 53rd minute through an own goal by Brazilian defender Alex, who then turned hero and scored an 83rd minute headed winner.
Even bringing on inspirational captain Theirry Henry couldn't turn the game in favour of Arsenal after coming on as a 66th minute subsitute. This has proven fatal for Arsenal as he has now injured groin and stomach muscles and faces more time on the sidelines.
Arsenal dominated possession and created more of the chances having 5 shots on target whilst PSV lacked firepower and only had the single shot on target in which they scored from. Arsenal's best chance was created by young Brazilian midfielder Denilson who played a delightful through ball to Adebayor who squandered the opportunity by firing straight at PSV 'keeper Gomes who made many great saves over the two ties. This adds to the disappointing turn of events for the gunners in the last 2 weeks leaving them with no chance of claiming any silverware after crashing out of the FA cup, Champions league and loosing the Carling Cup final to Chelsea.
