"Psychologically Flawed" Quip Denied By Blair
Blair Yesterday denied claims that he had labelled Brown "psychologically flawed".
Blair Yesterday denied claims that he had labeled Brown "psychologically flawed". The denial comes following allegations by Lance Price, a former Downing Street spin doctor, that the famous comment was uttered originally by Mr Blair himself in 1998.
Mr Price claimed on the internet TV channel 18 Doughty Street that "someone very close to the Chancellor" revealed to him that the remark was originated by the Prime Minister.
Although the true source of the remark has never been confirmed, it has generally been attributed to Alastair Campbell, despite his public protestations against the claim.
The comment emerged during 1998, in an atmosphere of ongoing hostility between the Prime Minister and his Chancellor, on account of Brown's distain for the nature in which Mr Blair took the leadership of the Labour Party following the death of John Smith, despite Brown himself having been the clearest choice for leader.
The allegations of Mr Blair's involvement in the remark was raised by Jeremy Wright MP, a Tory backbencher, during Prime Minister's questions in the Commons. Brown was not present at the time, as he is currently on a visit to India.
