Spamalot, based on classic Monty Python material came to the West End after success on Broadway, only to be nominated for seven theatrical Olivier awards.
Two stars of the successful comedy are Tim Curry, from the classic film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Hannah Waddington from the April 2000 theatre production, Lautrec, have been nominated for the Best Actor and Best Actress awards in the Lawrence Olivier awards, organised by The Society of London Theatre.
The play, written by Eric Idle, takes content from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, previously voted as favourite British Film of all time. Idle starred in this comedy as the Brave Sir Robin, 'who bravely turned his tail and fled'. Songs from the Holy Grail film are taken and help to remake the story of King Arthur in this comedy.
Hannah Waddington stated: ' It's one of the most exhausting parts I've ever played...I've never seen such a responce from an audience.' it is therefore no wonder that the play has been nominated for Best New Musical, Supporting role in a Musical, Lighting, Set and Costume, as well as Best Actor and Best Actress.
