Big Brother representing UK?
The hype surrounding Bollywood star, Shilpa Shetty, raises questions about the celebrity culture we love and idolise.

Shilpa Shetty was born into a rich and intelligent family, and has lived her life in a way thousands dream of. Accustomed to luxury of the highest level she entered the Big Brother house this month, after persuasion from producers of the programme searching for a top indian actress to appear in the show, claiming a stint in the celebrity-obsessed world of reality t.v would only be of benefit to her career.
Since she entered she has been subjected to racist taunts from fellow celebrity contestant jade Goody amongst others. Rich, successful, beautiful and admired like royalty in her homeland shetty has been asked if she lived in "a shack" by Jackiey Bludden, mother of Goody. Channel Four claim "to date there has been no overt racial abuse or racist behaviour...However, there has undoubtedly been a cultural and class clash." This is after twenty-thousand complaints have been reported over comments such as "they eat with their hands in india. Or is that China?...You dont know where your hands have been." This was made by glamour model Danielle Lloyd, a fine example of the English's love of dumb idols inflistrating our daily lives.
