super asbos, the answer to gang crime?
60% of Asbo orders are ignored. So, will new goverment measures, nicknamed 'Super Asbos', really impact internatially active ganasters?

The Goverments new initative, is designed to prosecute the previously 'untouchable' gangs. In an extreme attempt to restrict the lives of any suspected to be linked with crime, the courts will be able to impose curfews, freeze bank acounts, ban indivuals from travel, certain premises, meeting with certain people and even using a telephone. These orders can be put in place without the need of hard evidence, but instead can be based 'on the balance of probability'. Breaching these new orders can result in large fines and up to five years in prison.
Civil rights groups believe this to be too big an intrusion on potentially inocent peoples lives. Innocent people who prehaps have been unknowingly used in a crime or have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It seems Blair is forgeting historically Britains legal system is based on hard evidence, with a fair trial.
