Mind Control
Paralysed man controls computerised objects with his mind
Matthew Nagle 25, from Massachusetts is paralysed from the neck down and through technology he can control a computer and other machines using his thoughts.

He was the first patient to have a successful computer linked implant called The BrainGate Neural Inerface System. This system has electrodes which record neural activity from the brain. These signals are picked-up by the implant and decoded and processed by a computer which allows them to be translated into movement commands.

Initially with the implant Nagle could move a computer courser, but during 57 trials he can now change channels aswell as volume on the television. He can also play neural pong and open and close fingers of an artifical hand as well as grasp and move objects aswell as open email. This technology was develpoed by John Donoghue from work he begun in the 1980's with the cyberkinetics in conjunction with the department of neuroscience at Brown University.

Mr Nagle is C4quadriplegic which means he is paralyzed from the neck down. This was due to a stabbing 5years ago. He was stabbed with an 8inch blade which was entered through the left side of his neck just below his ear.
