Survivors found after 22 days of eating squid and rainwater.
Three men were rescued on tuesday after drifting into choppy waters and surviving off raw squid and rainwater
John Tabo, son and nephew drifted off the coast of Murray Island, Australia on April 17 in their 5 meter dingy on the way to pick up members of their rugby team 40 kilometers away.
They became disoriented after drifting into unsettled waters, and running out of fuel. They were left at the mercy of strong winds and scorching sun. They protected their heads with buckets and made makeshift paddles with empty fuel containers. They survived off rainwater and managed to catch one squid. The rough conditions were thought to have been caused by Cyclone Monica. They were rescued by a helicopter eighteen nautical miles away from Murray Island.
They are in a stable condition after suffering from dehydration and sunburn.
