German Cannibal Jailed for Life
Armin Meiwes a 44-year-old computer technician sentenced to life in prison after killing an acquaintance met on the Internet.
Sentenced in Frankfurt on Tuesday May 9th Meiwes was convicted of "disturbing the peace of the dead". Meiwes lawyers argue that he was just following his victim's wishes. At the retrail Meiws confessed of his killing of Bernd Juergen Brandes in March 2001, at his home in Rotenburg. Brandes had traveled from Berlin to meet his internet friend (Meiws) who had stabbed him to death after giving Brandes a bottle of cold medicine to drink so that he would loose consciousness. Mewies testifies that Brandes, 43, wanted to be "eaten alive".
Mewies mentioned that if his friend never asked to be "eaten alive" he would have never killed him in the first place. The killing of Brandes who was captured on video by Meiwes was said to urge Meiwes to carry out further killings after his death. Armin Meiwes told the court " I wanted to eat him- I didn't want to kill him." The Police found Meiwes in December 2002 and arrested him after a student from Austria alerted the Police.
At the start of 2004, a court in the city of Kassel convicted Armin Meiwes of manslaughter and sentenced him to 8 1/2 years in jail. But after his recent attack Armin Meiwes a "self-confessed cannibal" has been sentenced to life in prison.
