After 22 days floating out at sea living off raw squid and rainwater, these three men, john tabo, 38, his son john, 20, and nephew Tom, 16, were finally recused by helicopter near meury island, in the torres strait.
The men had first set out to pick up footballers from Yorke island, about 40km from their home island, when they were hit by Cyclone Monica with winds of up to 30 knots.
The men managed to contact shore 22 days later by sending text massages on their call phones to releatives.
Police believe that their story is very unlikely, as they couldnt have conserved battery on their cell phones for 22 days and been able to survive in their 5m dinghy.
Another theory that the boys were out on the run from the police while they were ut at see, however when they were in range of texting use, they were not wanted from the police.
The boys were taken to the hospital prior to the incident due to dehydration.
