CHARLES CLARKE REFUSES REQUEST FROM KENYAN MINISTER FOR ENTRY INTO THE UK
The former Kenyan transport minister's visa into the UK has been revoked by Charles Clarke
A former Kenyan transport minister had a visa allowing him into the UK revoked. He has brought his case to high court saying the decision was irrational.
Chris Murungaru claimed that the decision to revoke his visa was irrational. In April 2005 Murungaru got a multiple entry visa allowing him into the UK for an elbow operation. He planned to return in July, but Charles Clarke revoked his visa and told airlines not to carry Murungaru "in light of his character, conduct and associates."
The government is defending the decision saying the home office is concerned of the corruption surrounding Murungaru. They said "His presense would not be conducive to the public good."
Murungaru's lawyers have said that it's a breach of his human rights to refuse entry to medical supplies in the UK. The case is set to continue today.
