Armin Meiwes a 44-year-old German cannibal who was a technician has been sentenced for life after he confessed that he ate Brandes, a 43- year-old from Berlin whom he met on the internet. He claimed that the man wished to be eaten when he replied to an ad which stated "slaughter and consumption." Brandes drank a bottle of cold medicine to lose consciousness and then Armin, who was already known for freezing body parts and then eating them, consumed Brandes. 
He has been convicted in 2004 for the same act but was only imprisoned for six years for man slaughter. After federal appeals there was a retrial in January.  Armin Meiwes said, "I only wanted to eat him, not kill him."  He was tentitive to eat Brandes but since he had said that he wanted to be eaten alive. "Otherwise, i would have never done it," Meiwes said after the trial.
He had also filmed the killing and showed it to the court. He had wanted to say that there was a sexual motive to killing Brandes, but didn't have sufficiant evidence to do so.
