Robson, Shearer, Beckham.......?
David Beckham has stepped down as England captain but who is going to step up? Steve McClaren's first job as the new Sven is to pick a new Beckham.
Everyone has their opinion on who should be the next captain, Neville is experienced, Terry is a born leader, Gerrard could lead from the middle. The question is, who has got what it takes to fill the shoes of the likes of Bryan Robson, Alan Shearer and David Beckham? The Manchester United right-back Gary Neville was the man who recieved the band from Beckham when the Real madrid man left the field due to injury against Portugal. This could be a sign of what is to come, but will Neville be around long enough to take England to the next major competition in 2008?
Because of this, Gerrard and Terry have been put down as the book makers' favourites to take up the vacant position.
He has been criticised in the past for being better known off the pitch, in adverts, than on the pitch in his performances, but Beckham's £10 million advertising deals with Adidas and Pepsi have been put on the line by his decision, though he will continue to appear as an England International player.
