England's Final Hope Fades

England last hope for Summer Sporting Success ended when Andy Murray crashed out of Wimbledon yesterday. The young Scot was knocked out in straight sets to unseeded Marcos Baghdatis.
After his heroic victory against number two seed Andy Roddick on Saturday and the agony of seeing England being knocked of the World Cup on penalties, the nations hopes of sporting success rested on the shoulders of teenage sensation Murray. However, his good form deserted him and he, like the football team, whimpered out of another major tournament.
After his second round success against Roddick this defeat came as a suprise to many, including Murray. The 19 year old British number one stated "I am really dissapointed, but i cant dwell on this" Murray gave the expectant Wimbledon crowd little to cheer about as he lost the opening game 6-3. He then threw away a 4-1 lead in the second as Baghdatis fought back to win 6-4. The game was then wrapped up thanks to a 3rd set tie break where Baghadtis broke English hearts with a 7-6 victory.
So it is left to us Brits to reflect on another Summer with no silverware. A month which promised so much has failed to deliver and as both the World Cup and Wimbledon continue the English interest are at home.
