A muslim woman has been arrested after listening to her MP3 player during a testimany in a murder trial at BlackFriars Crown Court in central London. The man on trial was Alan Wicks, a 72 year old male who was later convicted by another judge of killing his disabled wife. A different judge at the trial suspected music playing near the muslim lady but when further judges heard music she was caught.
On June 27th the woman was then arrested for contempt of court, she was then released on bail with a warning.
This is the first time this has ever happened. If she is found guilty of contempt she is likely to receive a 3 year prison sentence. Previous to this event the woman had avoided doing jury service 3 times. She had already been reprimanded for arriving at court late.
