Liverpool increase bid for wonderkid in attempt to snatch title
Liverpool appear to have fought off interest from Arsenal to sign Dutch under 21 star Ryan Babel from Ajax. The fee is expected to be around £13.5 million.
Ryan Babel is set to follow Fernando Torres to become Liverpool's second major signing this summer. The wonderkid impressed in the recent Euro under 21 finals and attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, however he is likely to join Liverpool after admitting he is "flattered" by Liverpool's interest in him. The winger will become a valuable part of Rafael Benitez's team after the departures of Luis Garcia and Bolo Zenden as Liverpool attempt to close gap on Manchester United and Chelsea to win the Premiership. This is more exciting news for Liverpool fans as the investment promised by the new owners George Gillet and Tom Hicks appears to be readily available to spend. This would take Liverpool summer spending to an estimated £33.5 million.
