"sorry" might save wife-beaters from jail
Sorry and they might be going back home earlier then they thought
Men who use domestic violence against their partners could have the chance to avoid being sent to jail if they genuinely say sorry.

Instead wife-beaters could get a suspended sentence or community order.
It is also said that the offenders should go to a course to help their problems.

In England and Wales judges are passing sentences saying it was pointed out as
remorse and what references to remorse should be deleted. Judges are now told
to treat domestic violence as seriously as other cases of violence.

Nearly half of all female murders victims are killed by their partners or from
partners previous relationships. According to the British Crime Survey, 26 per cent of women and 17 per cent of men aged 16 to 69 have experience in domestic violence. The survey estimated that there are 15 million separate incidents a year.

A home office spokesman said that the guidelines were only in draft form and the Goverment would comment in due course.
