Up up and away
A group of twenty-one men and women will attempt tp bring victory to Britain - by climbing the Mount Everest ...
'We want to make British history.' says Dave Bunting, a warrant officer who is part of the British group attempting to climb the 20,029ft Mount Everest in Everest West Ridge.
They will leave for Tibet on March 22nd to join the popular climbing expedition, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Army Mountaineering Association. If they succeed, they will be the first Britons to reach the goal.
The climb has only been completed by 13 people prior, including the American's Willi Unsoeld and Tom Hornbein.
Two British teams have failed in the past. This group will use planning, preparation, training and team skills to ensure they reach the top. They will be pushed to their physical and mental limits.
An Army Delopment Team will attempt to reach the summit Lhakpa Ri, a 7,045 peak opposite Everest's north east ridge, while a Junior Team takes on Island Peak, the 6,250m mountain.
From The Headline, we wish them the best of luck!
