Mirren merits royal approval
The Queen is said to be "delighted" that Helen Mirren has won an oscar for portraying her in Peter Morgan's recent film.
The writer of the award winning film "The Queen", Peter Morgan, along with Dame Helen and the director Stephen Frears, have been invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen. Peter Morgan confirmed the meeting with the Monarch " The Queen's private secretary has invited us for lunch."
When recieving the award, Dame Helen praised the Queen, paying tribute to her "courage and consistancy." In her acceptance speech, whilst wearing only one earing she said " Now you know for 50 years or more Elizabeth Winsdor has maintained her dignity, her sense of duty and her hairstyle." Mirren beat fellow brits Kate Winslet and Dame Judi Dench in the race for the award. She is also the first British film star to win best actress since Emma Thompson in 1992 for Howard's End.
She excitedly exclaimed upon being asked would she ever recieve a call from the Queen? "I'm not expecting a call from Her Majesty, not ever! I think t's wonderful that i live in a country that allows us to make a film like this."
