Woman Killed In House Explosion
An elderly woman, Moira Dickson, was killed and her husband faces serious injuries.
An elderly woman, Moira Dickson, was killed and her husband faces serious injuries from a house explosion, on Grey street, North shields. Moria was trapped in an upstairs bedroom while her husband Joe Cairns was making tea downstairs. Joe was taken to hospital as well has 5 other people were taken to hospital for minor injuries but they were sent home after traetment as they werent so brutal. Joe still suffers with burns and smoke inhalation.
The explosion happened on wednesday at 7:35am We are still investigating the scene and we are pretty sure it was caused by a gas leak. Mike Watson a neighbour said "The blast had completely destroyed the house" "It looked like something from the war, it looked like a bomb had hit the street, cars windscreens were blown though, the street was full of rubble, it was horrific" "There was a loud bang, so loud that we thought it was something in our own home"
Grey Street has been evacuated and the road has been cordoned off. People have been told to stay away from the area.
The Council has set up an resource centre in the Linskill centre to provide food and accommadation and to support those who were affected by the explosion.
