Java shaken by earthquake-At least 5 found dead
A strong underwater earthquake in Indonesia's Java on Monday has killed at least five people, claims the Indonesian president.
President Susilo Banbang Yudhoyono told a news conference that the search for survivors was continuing and that,"An earthquake has happened and was followed by a tsunami on the southern coast of Ciamis," he said.
A powerful earthquake sent a six-foot-high tsunami into a beach resort, killing at least six people and causing extensive damage to hotels, restaurants and homes. People ran up a hill to escape the wave that measured 7.2 on the Rictus scale.
The Transport Minister, Hatta Radjasa said he had heard reports about a tsunami striking two seaside towns, and urged people living there to move inland in an orderly fashion.
