Watchdog criticises paraxel firm
The goverment has criticised the firm Paraxel for a disastrous drug trial which left six men critically ill.

The research firm Paraxel failed to comply with straight foward procedures which lead to errors over contracts and patient records. The firm had said "The adverse reaction seen in the men was most likely down to an unpredicted biological action of the drugs in humans". It was found that there was no formal system in place for 24 hour medical cover.
There was also no contract in place between the manifacture and Paraxel futher evidence showed how only a draft contract was in place between the firm and a private laboratory used by them. All six men suffered from serious side effects including multiple organ failure due to a substance called TGN1412 designed to treat arthritis and leukemia.
It concluded that the type of drug given to the men was a new class of monoclonal antibodies, given in the space of 10 minutes of each other. Access was given to evidence showing the men had not been treated for up to 5 hours after the first symptom was reported.
