Bush and Blair to back Iraq democracy
At a conference Blair and Bush meet to discuss Iraq future
Tony Blair flew into Washington earlier this week for a conference in the Whitehouse with Goerge Bush to discuss and urge the international community to back Iraq's democracy. Blair put forward his case in the name of democracy and human rights.
President Bush said, "It is vital to see the job through." Blair also met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki this week and expressed optimism for the country. The British Prime Minister arranged to talk about Iraq's plan for an international confernece to back its government and wanted Bush's support.
The five steps in the President's plan to help Iraq achieve democracy and freedom are: to hand over authority to a sovereign government, to continue rebuilding Iraq, to help establish security, to encourage the world's support and aim towards a national election empowered by the Iraqi people.
