West Ham Fans Invovled in Huge Brawl
Huge clashes in Italy, 20 West Ham fans were arrested and 6 were injured after a huge fight with Palermo fans, 500 people in total were involved
There were clashes between rival fans in Italy last night. 21 people were arrested, the majority of whom were West Ham fans in a huge brawl with Palermo fans in Italy.
The fight took place last night just before midnight and continued for over one hour, with police unable to break it up. West Ham fans had travelled to Italy for their UEFA second leg match with Palermo, and the fight started outside the Palermo opera house. Of the 500 people invloved, 300 were West Ham supporters.
The violence started because t-shirts had been sold bearing the slogan "The Hammers vs. The Mafia". Rival fans threw bottles and chairs, and as police officers tried to break up the brawl, they were pulled into the conflict. In total there were 17 people injured including 6 West Ham fans, 6 police officers and 5 Palermo fans.
An eyewitness had this to say about events: "West Ham fans behaved like animals, roaming the streets, bottles in hand searching for anyone to fight."
