Captain Cleared
Captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam Ul Haq, has been cleared this week, of the allegations made concerning ball tampering in the test series against England, earlier this month.
The controversial cricket match during September, which ended in England being awarded the whole test series against Pakistan, was later assessed by the ICC. This was due to allegations made by the umpires about Inzamam's attempts to tamper with the ball, therefore resulting in an unfair advantage being awarded to the bowling team.

After hearing the cheat claims made concerning his team, the Pakistan captain Inzamam Ul Haq refused to lead his team onto the pitch after walking off for the mid afternoon break. Inzamam's track record with the ICC did not benefit him in the situation, after
suffering eleven previous punishments within the last ten years, he was immediately suspended from the Pakistan squad.

Inzamam's hearing took place this week, at the Oval cricket ground, Surrey. Here, the International Cricket Council punished the captain by refusing to let him take part in four, one-day internationals. "On the first charge of ball tampered under paragraph 2.9 of the ICC code of conduct, I find Inzamam not guilty", says Madugalle, chief umpire.

Despite being "let off lightly", Inzaman was found guilty of bringing cricket into disrepute. This occurance has not taken place for 129 years, in test cricket matches. Even though Inzamam has been given the opportunity to appeal, the 36 year old batsman has decided to accept punishment, meaning he will be able to take part in the opening matches of the Champions Trophy. "Since this is the minimum possible suspension, I don't think we will appeal."
