Teenage gangs are ambushing security guards in the streets and snatching cash boxes containing tens of thousands of pounds. The number of these so called cash in transit snatch robberies have doubled since last year.The typical scenario is for a small grouping of three teenagers to catch a security guard by surprise in the streets.The amount the gang gets away with are 10m to 25m.
The tactics used to snatch the money involves pushing over the guard or threatening the guard with a weapon. The cash boxes are no longer chained to the guards hand.The money that the theives steal is used to buy designer clothes. It appears that these crimes are usally carried out in a disorganised way but tyhey are crimes which are giving the police cause for concern.
