Cricket World Cup to carry on as planned
The Cricket world cup will continue
Today, the ICC chief Malcom Speed announced that the Cricket World Cup will continue despite the shocking news that the former England player and Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was murdered.
The ICC chief confirmed this at a news conference saying that the schedule for the tournament would continue as planned. Mr Speed said: "There has been speculation as a result of this (Bob Woolmer's murder) that the Cricket World Cup would be discontinued but this will not be the case." He also said: "there will not be any changes to the timetable or venues."
With people like fromer South Africa test star Allan Donald calling for the World Cup to be called off, the ICC has been under some pressure, but they made their decision today.
The speculation appeared after Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was found unconsious in his hotel room in Kingston on Sunday morning. He was immediately taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Jamican police confirmed on Thursday that the 58 year old Woolmer was strangled to death and they also believe that he knew his killer or killers before this occurred.
Another reason why the World Cup was not called off is because of all the TV money paid out in advance would have been reimbursed.
Although a great tragedy has hit Cricket, the greatest cup in Cricket will continue as planned but with a dark shadow over it.
